While volunteering and performing at the EastView retirement center, residents noted how much they loved hearing music and seeing new faces. Given their interests in music and engagement, I thought about how I could scale these into a kind of volunteer intervention. It immediately became clear to me that the music department was an untapped source of volunteer capacity, so a few of us brainstormed and began coordinating with the music department, and we ended up with MMO. I’m currently one of MMO’s co-presidents, which primarily includes synchronizing the efforts of all officers, presiding over board meetings, and managing the trajectory of our organization and programs. My musical background is in jazz, blues, metal, and flamenco guitar.

I've been a part of MMO since the beginning of 2020 and since the inception of MMO, I've loved watching our community grow and hearing the positive feedback from both our volunteers and our community partners. I was drawn to the idea of MMO as a concurrent premed and music student as a way for me to fuse my two passions together. As the vice president and event coordinator, I have helped shape much of our outreach plan during the COVID-19 pandemic. I am the main point of contact for volunteers wanting to engage in our outreach opportunities and new community partners with questions about starting outreach with us. I also plan board meetings and run our virtual outreach events, so if you would like to be included in any upcoming events, I'd be happy to provide you with more information!

Music has always been a source of joy and a means of forging meaningful connections in my life. I am so excited to be part of MMO and to contribute to its mission of promoting music as a form of service and outreach. A music student and member of the College Choir, I am always looking for opportunities to encourage and be involved with musical performances in the community. As the Communications Director, I am responsible for correspondence with volunteers, the mailing list, and managing social media. Please reach out if you are interested in getting involved! 

Hi! My name is Ulysses. I’m from Halifax, Nova Scotia. I love both playing and listening to music and I’m totally psyched to be involved in MMO. My role involves audio recording and mixing. My favorite piece of music is Mahler’s 8th symphony and my favorite ice cream flavor is Ben and Jerry’s Cherry Garcia.
